The Guinevere Dress
The Guinevere Dress is a piece of fashion history. This incredibly rare "Lee Bender Bus Stop" 70's dress is made of a soft cotton fabric in a deep green colour. It features incredible oversized balloon sleeves, black lace edging, and button down front. This is the ultimate prairie! The skirt has a light mark and a pin hole (picture 4) but otherwise is in good vintage condition.
Bus Stop was one of the influential London boutiques that emerged in the late 1960s. Founded in 1968 by designer Lee Bender and her husband Cecil as an outlet for her growing manufacturing business, the shop quickly became known for its distinctly British identity, reflected in its name and its signature red branding, inspired by telephone boxes, pillar boxes, and London buses. In 1969, Bus Stop moved to a location beside the iconic Biba, placing it at the heart of London’s fashion scene. The brand expanded rapidly, eventually growing into a chain of twelve stores across the UK. In 1979, the business was acquired by French Connection, and a few years later, in 1982, Lee and Cecil Bender launched a new London boutique called Arcade.
